Bus driver checks his phone

Bus driver checks his phone in the shade while waiting on Park Street, Sackville, New Brunswick, next to the Mount Allison University football field. From a photo I took in August, 2016. Totally butchered this one adding watercolour. Pencil sketch on 9 ¼ × 6 ¼″ Stillman & Birn Alpha (white/150 gsm) paper.

Stephen Scott sketching

Sketch of Fredericton, New Brunswick, artist Stephen Scott painting on the Tantramar Marsh (Anderson Marsh Road). He’s working on a small oil sketch on linen from the back of his portable studio (his Subaru). Roughed-in with pencil on site; polished up with a fountain pen from reference photos back in the studio. Stephen Scott website

Houses with Kubota tractor

Series of shots of this work in progress; pencil, Carbon fountain pen, watercolour, in 8 ¼ × 3 ½″ Global Art Materials trav•e•logue hand•book. Had to include the Kubota tractor. Some pencil studies in a Moleskine drawing pad before starting the watercolour. The tractor is much bigger here than in the painting.

Colville House

A watercolour sketch — pencil begun in situ, completed in studio — of Alex Colville’s home in Sackville, New Brunswick, now preserved as part of the Mount Allison University campus as Colville House. Pencil, Carbon fountain pen, and watercolour in 9 ¼ × 6 ¼″ Stillman & Birn Alpha (150 gsm) white sketchbook.

Ultramarine watercolour swatches

Winsor & Newton’s French Ultramarine (PB29) next to a swatch of Daniel Smith’s Ultramarine (PB29). The sketch of the parking lot behind Struts Gallery has had a wash of the Winsor & Newton French Ultramarine applied. Very little granulation. Earlier versions of this sketch in progress.
